It's A Sushi Plate - for Heaven's Sake!

I painted this Sushi plate a few months ago and since then there have been only a handful of visitors to our place who have GOT IT. The rest will ask me why I'm painting sad pictures nowadays and yet others look puzzled and polite.

The fish's kith and kin, it's brothers and sisters, are lying all cut and rolled up right on top of it! THAT IS WHY IT IS SAD.

*Sigh* Maybe I should have just painted a blurb with the whole story. Or maybe have the fishy muttering curse words. Ah, now that's an idea!

Hmmmm ... You should have painted a sad picture of Mr. Gabby on the sushi plate ..... you know in appreciation of your culinary skills. All your guests would get it i.e. if they lick the plate clean ;-)

Muttering curse words is a good idea. Maybe a sequence across plates?

Hey, if all else fails :)

If I order a Cajun Chicken Sandwich at Chillis, and the plate had a painting of a sad chicken on it, I would just freak out ! Hope this is just a showpiece and not an actual serving plate.

I have Zo, it's kept for special occasions :)...Or when anonymity is no longer a big deal to me!

quizman - thx! :)

Ashok - You have spoken my mind. If all else fails ....:)..So do I have a customer?

Anon - Look at it as my feeble attempt to spread vegetarianism! But tell me exactly how thin is the skin here? If you were served chicken in the fishy plate, would it mean something? The veggie-club is forever looking to expand!

shub - what's up babe? how's you? hardly see ya around nowadays!! Okie, once in a while I'll post my "art" :)

Ash - Thanks! We are talking painting here or blogging? :)

?! - Hath milao! Me veggie too...Fierce or not I don't know. Read my reply to Anon. Maybe I should do that sequence of plates and the last one shows a sad little human being! LOL!

parna - I though a fish meeting where they're plotting against us? All ideas welcome! Hee Hee!

coolcat - Can you believe I set out to paint a school of happy fishes but my veggie-ness took over? No, no copying. Thanks much!

Hey nice :)..very cute painting..that story was something !! :D

You know there was a pond which had so many fishes like the one u painted (all live...none in sushi form)..chotu-machi(the smallest fish) was loved by one and all....it used to sing songs..play chupa chupi,go scuba-diving in deep-waters with friends(you know with the 30 min oxygen tank :p) and all that...the difference between ur painting and this story is....one day while scuba diving...chotu-machi fell asleep, oxygen in the tank got over and it died :|. Suddenly the water level in the pond started raising at the rate of 1cm/sec. How come ?? (that should be easy for u :p).

Wouldn't that fish be better off swimming off to some other plate, lest the chef wonders about the 'one that got away'?

Childhood rhyme .. "machli jal ki raani hai/jeevan uska paani hai" ... and Anon: you have a carcass on your plate, blood on your soul and you'd freak at seeing a pic on the plate? Strange ...

Yeah, the fish does look sad. Ok, a nice sad looking fish on a rectangular plate. Cool.

Just kidding, honestly, a little surprised by the depth of the humour. You can add a live Nemo to the dish and tell your guests that he is the only left. :-)

Add another WOW! Superb painting :-)
But serving sushi, and then making the guest feel guilty with the 'underlying' veggie campaign is evil!!

pingoo - there he is, wandering off to some other topic! It's sunday morning and I'm pre-caffeine, please not to be asking me to use my brain. Will return to your chottu machi story when eyes are fully open.

rhyncus - Very true. But some medium problems that poses. Unless it can jump total "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" style...what's that defense art called now, where they fly and all...man, really need that coffee.

?! - LOL @ response to Anon...Blood on his soul! :)...Dramatic banda you are! In any case, he would have wiped his plate clean by the time he unearthed the pic, so on second thoughts, this approach has it's drawbacks. Maybe arranging the fish as a human might freak them out sufficiently. Unless of course they get excited and I would have converted the lot into future-cannibals...

Smiley - Ok, that line "surprised by the depth of humour" is very rattling. Tell me this "light" piece of mine didn't measure up to my usual posts and THAT is all you meant. You still have time for a neat save. Our entire future relationship is hinged on your response :)

karan - long time no see man! how's you? Yes, you have the evil part down. My middle name that!

kj - Good, we all agree on the fish looking sad. My whole explanation on why it looks sad would have seemed really odd if it didn't :)

really sweet looking sushi plate, the sad looking fish adding to the charm. it would have been more appealing if not for the Spreading Vegetarianism theme of it.

Cos, though I believe in "Dried beans and dark leafy green vegetables are especially good sources of iron, better on a per calorie basis than meat" I still need a lot more reason why I should not eat meat at all.

And also, what will happen to the world if each and every human listened to folks like you and turned vegetarians? :) what would happen to the eco-system?

So lets leave the world the way it is and continue with painting our china. :))

Gabby, chicken in fishy plate would mean nothing, so that's fine. But good luck for your veggie-banao zumbesh !

And ?!ji kya drama hai ? But you have inspired me. For tonight's dinner, I am going to arrange the chicken pieces on my plate in the shape of a question mark and exclamation point, and then proceed to enjoy it..

Gabby: That was in a good way. the painting looked like a sketch from Finding Nemo when Nemo's Dad loses his wife and entire family.

Thats sad. Putting it on a Sushi plate is like a political statement in a lighter vein. Almost like an editorial cartoon.

So, it surprised me. :-)

Shall cease and desist from spewing rant on veggie philosophy cept for

anon :"I still need a lot more reason" ... precisement.
"what would happen to the eco-system?" ... I would think any alternate course of action couldn't have screwed it up any worse than what it is ?

Drama ? here it is. Stalin watched Charlie Chaplin movies, laughing like a child, on the evening he signed over 300 death warrants in a single day.

shub - good, good.

Anti - What you saying? Will go check your site out! The dam has broken huh? And anonymity and I fight an ongoing battle, you know...

Amit - Nice! Me likes. :)

Anon - Come ooon! How can I do that? Isn't every stab however weak and frail, a drop in the ocean? Here I am doing my bit for none other than the ecosystem you talk of, this ONE time and swoosh! People are dampening the spirit and all....Ah well, lets talk color palette then, nice blues and greens na?

Manu - *Pat on your shoulder*

swathi - Honey, if I simmered the fishy, all the sushi-lovers here would gag. They eat it raw sweetie. Yes I know, our turn to gag. But know what, I love the whole hulla-bullo of sushi...the mat, the seaweed, the rolling, the little cute dipping cups, very cool. Now if only we can come up with a way to serve say pakodas with that much ceremony....

Anumita - And there speaks a true sushi lover I can see. Or maybe just a "maach" lover huh?

Sqrlnt - *Sigh*...Yes, that must be it.

Trixy - See a vegetarian like me has to learn to rebel in creative ways. I don't have a taboo thing, I don't have an aversion...and Mr.Gabby will eat anything that moved (as long as it's not moving when he eats it, I'm OK)...so what do I have left? My art! (Ah, looks like I have the suffering part of the suffering-artist thing down) :D

Anon - Good to see you have found a way to deal. I like people who solve their own problems. So have you had ?! for dinner yet? I hope not, readers who spout haikus on the philosophy of life are rarer to come by than poultry and fish...

:-) - OK, all forgiven. No, no kiss and makeup. Now go try to live your life, try hard to not make me the center of your universe. It will only hurt. But wait! If you suffer enough, your writing might just improve...and you might even turn artist or poet!!...*Phew, I overwhelm me!* :D

Alpha is fine. Trying to be one of the boys. It's not working. :)

Anon - I do let them go. I feed them well, they drink themselves silly and then go home. One sad fish and I'm no longer the gracious hostness??

*Leaning back after fighting losing battle*

Gabby: Its already late. Hmm...the prospects of improving my writing or turning into a poet sounds promised. Not to me mention that kiss and makeup. Yippie.
